About

This is the website of the conference Debating the End of Yugoslavia, which was organised by the Center for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz, 4-6 November 2011.

On the first and second day, eye witnesses remembered and reflected on the dissolution of Yugoslavia. This includes politicians, journalists and other personalities from public life. The recollections of eye witnesses were commented by scholars, who provide a background and open the floor for discussion.

On the second and third day more than 40 leading historians, sociologists, lawyers, anthropologists, political scientists and economists from former Yugoslavia, the rest of Europe and North America discussed the state of scholarly debate. The conference did not solely focus on the dissolution of Yugoslavia, but also aimed at identifying new and productive directions for research.

During the conference, the university museum hosted an exhibition of the Design Studio Trio (Sarajevo), which has designed iconic and politically charged posters, magazine covers and ads over the past three decades.
